Introduction

This Instructional Design course is an introduction to the design and development of instruction based on empirically-derived learning theory. This course will provide participants with the theoretical, experiential, and critical components of the instructional design process.

This course will be divided into three modules:

  1. The first module will introduce participants to the theory, history, and major models of instructional design.

  2. The second module will explore the skills and techniques necessary in the analysis, design, development, and evaluation of instructional materials and the supporting materials which are developed for each stage. This module will also cover effective learning and teaching styles that will provide means of tailoring instruction to individual participants.

  3. Finally, the last module will provide participants with an opportunity to apply the skills and competencies of instructional design and development by creating an effective, stand-alone Technology Assissted Learning Modules (TALM).

Audience Profile

The participants are on average 40 years old, have had 10 years of teaching experience, are 66% female, and 55% have a Masters degree. More info in the roster or the excel file. Africa's Connectivity: Payson Center's Africa List, Info_Africa, Info_Africa Education pages, ISPs in these countries.

Designer's Edge: 12 Phase Instructional Design. Allen Communications launched the PowerPoint Synergy that exports Designer's Edge 3.0 storyboards to PowerPoint presentations. The first 8 phases are included in a software called Trainer's Edge (with the same DE2.0 GUI). Asymetrix Training also offers training for Designer's Edge.
