	Knowledge	Skills	Task
General	Identify the common components of an application: menus, toolbars, the status bar, and the min, max and close buttons.		Locate the menu, toolbar, status bar, and min, max and close buttons. Open, print and save a file in an application. Maximize, minimize and close an application using the top-right buttons.
Menus	Understand a menu contains a list of available functions the application can perform. Identify the common menus - File, Edit, Window and Help.	Be able to search to see if an application contains a specific function. Be able to use the standard file menu to save or print files, and save files under another name.	Browse menus to get a feel for the kind of functions the application makes available. Create a new (or open a) file, save and print that file.
File Dialogs	Understand that a file dialog is used to open and save files from an application.	How to use the standard file dialog box to select a file or folder.
Resizing Applications		How to move, resize, and bring forward windows on the screen.
Cut, Copy and Paste	Understand that cut, copy and paste can be used to move bits of information from one place to another. Understand that, in Windows, only one item can be on the 'clipboard' at any point in time. (Office is different, I know)	How to cut, copy, and paste from one place or application to another.	Move, and copy, a file from one folder to another. Copy a scrap of text from one point in a file to another, or between files.
Resizing Windows (within an application)		Adjusting a Window's View. Cascading Open Windows.
Scrollbars	Understand that scrollbars are used when all the information cannot fit on the screen.	Be able to use a scrollbar to navigate a file	Move from top to bottom and left to right within a document.
Toolbars	Understand that a toolbar contains the most frequently used functions of an application for easy access.	Be able to add/remove toolbars, move toolbars and create a Custom Toolbar	Add/remove a toolbar and move it around the screen. Change the available buttons.
