Files, folders, drives, and applications to view, move and rename them.      
  Knowledge Skill Task
  A file is used to store information on the computer, including text, media and programs. Identify files on your computer  
  A folder is a container for files and other folders. Identify folders on your computer  
  A Drive is a container for folders and files. External drives allow one to move folders and files from one computer to another.    
  There is a hierarchal structure on you computer with several drives, with many folders on a drive, and many files within a folder.  A root structure of a tree maybe helpful or a comparison with a 'traditional' file cabinet. Able to use My Computer to display the drives/Folders/files.  
    Able to use Windows Explorer to display the drives/Folders/files.  
Drives      
  Able to Determine space available on  drives. Check for free space on your drives I can check the different drives on my computer for unused space.
    Cut, copy and move files/folder from one drive to another  
    Preform basic maintence on the drives I can perform basic tasks for maintaining the different drives on the computer (i.e. defragmentation and scanning the drive for errors).
      Formatting a Disk
      Find the amount of disk space remaining in the local hard disk.
      Accessing a CD-ROM or Floppy disk for information and files
Folder      
  Understand that folders are used to organize the files on your computer, usually by topic. Create a folder I can create a new Folder
    move Existing folders I can move folders to new locations on my hard drive.
    rename a folder  
    delete a folder  
    Manage folders to organize information in related groups  
    Changing Folder Options Using the view menu, I can open folder options and change the properties
Files      
  Understand that a file association specifies the type of information in that file.   Identify a file association (and be able to create, edit and remove file types - better if they don't play with this I think)
    Identify File Extensions and related programs I know what a file extension is, and able to recognize common types
    Idenify a Files properties, size, type,  and date modified  
      I can save files to my hard drive or to a floppy or auxiliary disk
      I can back up important files
      I can copy a file to an existing  folder
      I can find the setup (install) program on a piece of software and install it on my computer (update software)
Recycling bin      
  Understand that the Recycle Bin is used to retrieve accidently deleted files and folders. To remove files from your computer, you can delete them. Deleting a file or folder
