International development practitioner and academic with twelve years of project design and execution experience. Africa a regional focus, have worked in the DRC, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, and in 2012 lectured at the American University of Nigeria. As a consultant for Tulane University, implemented a number of research and capacity building projects, which included in-depth research and analysis on human rights and public health issues in agricultural and extractive industries of West and Central Africa.

Adam Papendieck is a Program Director at the Payson Center where his role is to leverage appropriate and innovative information technologies to support research and grant-funded capacity-building projects, primarily in East Africa. He has also supported crisis informatics activities in collaboration with Tulane’s Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy.

I have worked with a number of environmental/social justice nonprofits and community-based organizations as well as in the health research, governmental, and educational sectors. My enduring passions are ecological, community, and organizational sustainability. My particular interest is in furthering researching on permaculture/systems thinking and practical applications for community development.

Elke Johanna de Buhr, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Payson Center for International Development. Her research focuses on the rights and protection of children, and the health and well-being of people of all ages. Dr. de Buhr has worked on projects financed by the US Department of Labor, CDC, UNDP, UNICEF, UN-OCHA, UNAIDS, the World Bank, Reprieve UK and the European Union, Fairtrade International (FLO), National Medical Foundation (NMF), World Vision International, and Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), among others.
