Sarah Harelson-Truxillo

Program Manager
Sarah Harelson-Truxillo at Graduation

I was born in California but my father relocated our family to the Washington D.C. area when he landed a job with the Public Health Service so I spent many of my formative years in Maryland.  I now call New Orleans home but have family on both coasts.  I moved to Bangladesh in 2003 with the United States Peace Corps Service and stayed on an additional year to work with Family Health International.  My main projects in Bangladesh were teaching English to secondary school girls and creating HIV prevention pilot projects.  I completed my Master's in Public Health at Tulane in 2008 and continued to work with Dr. Nancy Mock as a Program Manager through the Payson Center.  The projects I manage are in East and Southern Africa, predominately Rwanda.  I work closely on a daily basis with our team in Rwanda and that is the perk of my job, I love NOLA do not want to leave but still get my international fix!

Sarah Harelson-Truxillo was the subject of a Paysonite Profile in the January 27, 2014 edition of the Payson Center eNewsletter, The Monitor.

Primary Classification:
As a Tulane Graduate myself I have been a fixture of the University since 2006. The plan at the time was to stay in NOLA for two years to complete my MPH but I discovered Payson, a love for New Orleans, met my husband, and have never left! I primarily work with Dr. Nancy Mock as a Program Manager for her Public Health Capacity Building Projects in Rwanda. Payson has a dynamic team of faculty and staff all with such varied backgrounds and experiences which makes for a very interesting pleasant work environment.
