Ph.D. Goals & Objectives

International Development is a naturally complex field. The study of ID entails understanding the problems of underdevelopment including the initiatives, processes, and approaches offered as solutions.. Working in ID, however, requires not only understanding the problems of underdevelopment but being able to implement successful programs aimed at improving sustainable human development. To this end the goal of this Ph.D. program is to promote theoretical knowledge and practical skills transfer through interdisciplinary instruction and research. The specific objectives are:

foster theoretical and applied teaching and research to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life in developing countries;
promote international development literacy within and outside of the university community;
encourage interdisciplinary information exchange on issues related to sustainable development;
strengthen ties among faculty and students interested in international development;
serve as a forum for public lectures, seminars, workshops and conferences on international development.
