Agricultural Information System: Weather Surfaces

Start Date:
2009
Status:
Complete
Location:
Eastern & Southern Africa
Objective:

This project will deliver timely, agriculturally interpreted weather data to institutions and individuals working with agricultural production systems in Eastern and Southern Africa, including NARS, CGIAR centers, seed companies and universities.  Delivered through an interactive web-based platform that includes on-line visualization (maps, charts, tables, comparison statistics) as well as data for download (to both mapping programs and ‘spreadsheets’ for local utilization) and licenses for desktop mapping, this project will create a historical database (10 years) of daily weather surface activity for use in the analysis of variation including risk and has relevance for both agriculture (e.g., rainfall) and health (predicting local normals for environment related stresses from heat to malaria transmission).
