In the rapidly
globalizing world economy, there is a steady stream of small and medium sized
companies and institutions seeking to become involved in development projects
requiring foreign trade and investment. This
is true of both developing and developed countries.
Seeking to launch such projects in an environment dominated by large,
highly, talent and capital rich experienced multinationals is a daunting
challenge.
Market surveys,
strategic partner searches, due diligence, assessment of applicable trade and
tariff provisions, investment laws, non-tariff barriers and finance ability are
key elements in the planning and design of such projects.
These general feasibility studies must be executed in innovative ways
specially adapted to each individual case and with a heavy dose of education and
orientation to groups, usually newcomers, seeking to enter this field for the
first time. This presentation will
look at the general approaches required for such cases and refer to several
illustrative case studies.
