Social Justice and the City

This symposium is an opportunity for graduate student scholars to present their work in an interdisciplinary environment. We are interested in how scholars frame issues of social justice in terms of disaster resilience, urban design and planning, public participation in policy, and the environment in the context of urban change. Approaching the tenth anniversary year of Hurricane Katrina, this symposium is an opportunity to explore urban equity in a global context.

In support of the OXFAM Social Impact Assessment of the BP Oil Spill Disaster on Gulf Coast Communities, the Payson Center for International Development and the  Disaster Resilience Leadership Academy (DRLA) will collect and analyze existing baseline social and economic vulnerability of Terrebonne and Plaquemines parishes.
