The International Studies Association (ISA) is currently seeking Payson Center students interested in a volunteering at the upcoming ISA Annual Convention in New Orleans, held from February 18-21, 2015.

The ISA Convention hosts over 5,800 scholars in the fields of Political Science and International Studies presenting their cutting-edge research on a wide variety of topics, including International Law, Global Development, Diplomatic Studies, Human Rights, Global Health, International Political Economy, and many more. Over 1000 panels will run from Wednesday morning through Saturday evening.

This is an excellent opportunity for Payson Students to see their professors present at a scholarly event, Dr. Stanley Samarasinghe,  Dr. Anna Monhartova, Dr. Nanette Svenson  and Dr. Chavanne Peercy, a Payson Ph.D. graduate are all participating.

For every annual convention, ISA recruits between 75 - 100 student volunteers from local universities to assist the ISA staff. This year's convention will be held In New Orleans at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside Hotellocated at Two Poydras Street.

In return for working one half-day shift, volunteers are given

  • free admission to ISA's four day convention (a $160.00 USD value)
  • complimentary 1 year student membership, which includes electronic access to all 6 of our professional journals.

Lyn Brabant, ISA Director of Administrative Support says the work itself is relatively easy. "Volunteers assist with the distribution of name-badges & program books, or with unpacking convention supplies. I send detailed information to every individual volunteer prior to the convention so that they know exactly what to expect."

This year's volunteer shifts are as follows:

  • Wednesday, February 18,  7:15 AM - 12:15 PM
  • Wednesday, February 18,  12:15 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Thursday, February 19,   7:15 AM - 12:15 PM
  • Thursday, February 19,   12:15 PM - 6:00 PM
  • Friday, February 20,   7:15 AM - 12:15 PM
  • Friday, February 20,  12:15 PM - 6:00 PM

ISA is currently seeking 30 more students to assist staff. Students interested in volunteering should contact Lyn Brabant directly with any questions or indicating which two of the above shifts best fit their schedule though only one will be assigned.
